I believe I would be receiving a local anesthetic, as that is what I received last time, which I would still need a count >30. The only thing is, the dentist is not very experienced with children with ITP (I still go to a pediatric dental center) and he does not feel comfortable treating me with levels this low. Maybe if my hematologist clears me, we may be able to get by without an IVIG, but if my levels dip back down into the 10's, we would probably have to do one.

Can your hematologist talk with your dentist and the 2 of them come up with a count the dentist would be comfortable with? The specialist that needed to cut into my gum & bone to get to a piece of instrument that broke off at the tip of an upper root when a root canal was done wanted a letter from my hematologist saying it was ok to do this surgery with a count of X or above.

I’m sure that would be possible, I would have to discuss that with my hematologist and dentist the next time I see them. I don’t go back until October/November, but I’m sure my mom could call the dentist one day and see.

I like when doctors consult with my other doctors - with my HMO all a specialist has to do is open my record and it's all there [no dentist though]. This is crazy - it is almost October already!!

I know, time is passing so quickly! Before we know it, it will be 2021! Hopefully next year will be better than this year. I can't wait until I'm able to go back to school. My school allowed us to choose whether we wanted to stay home or not, but the covid cases were so high at the time and my count usually plummets when I get sick, so we didn't want to risk anything.

I'm with you teen - hoping next year will be a better one than this year! Sounds like you and your family made a good decision about school, must have been a hard decision too. Can you change your mind down the road and go back to classes? It is just a shame so many feel it is not important to themselves or those around them to wear a mask & distance. Take care!!

I can change my mind down the road if I wish, and I am probably going too. I am normally an all A student, but I have been struggling with online school. So many flaws in the system and miscommunications. It truly is disappointing to see people not caring about Covid, many people treat it as if were a joke. But, slowly, the cases are going down, although they could also spike at any moment. I know I make sure to stay away from people when it is possible and I always wear my mask. Even before it was required, (before the mandatory mask order in my county), I wore my mask out wherever I went. I just hope this gets taken care of soon. I've seen some things saying that they are using IVIG as a Covid treatment in some people? I'm not sure true this is but it is something I'm going to look into a little more.
