I haven't heard of throwing up as a symptom before, I was on prednisone not dex - are you sure you aren't throwing up for another reason?

Autumn - I've never heard of Dex being taken or tapered like that for ITP. I have only seen Dex given in pulses. Odd....

At any rate, I don't really know of any way to make withdrawal of any steroid any easier. Have you tried taking anything for your stomach? Is reflux causing the vomiting?

How long have you been on Dex and at what dose? As I said, it's a very strange way to treat ITP. It's usually given at 40 mg's for 4 days and that's it. How are your counts?

i have been on Dex as of mid sept. when i got discharged from the hospital for less then 12 hrs and got put back in the hospital. and i started at more then 40 mg they had to give me a liquid form threw an iv at first then they droped it and im not on 1 mg every other day witch there trying to ween me off but i feel like i'm going crazy.

I had my spleen out in the beginning Oct. and im actually doing okay with that im still a bit heavy and sore at night when i try to sleep but if i stick a pillow uder my side i sleep ok.
T
he odd part was i had 2 spleens they had to take out apperently alot people have 2 ..the doc said if one your spleens dont work your body start to make a new one t try and help your body i thought that was interesting.

That is a really long time to be on Dex. I've never heard of anyone being on it that long. I'd imagine it would be quite hard to get off of.

Don't blame yourself. It's a wicked drug and nothing you can control. I think I'd look at other options next time if need be.

I feel for you. I only did dex as one 4 day pulse and that at half dose.. 20mg a day.. and I felt awful for the following week. Felt drunk and couldn't walk straight. Refused to do it again.

Phillip,
See my posting in the Natural treatments section, page 2
pdsa.org/forum/8-natural-treatment-methods/12854-how-to-attenuate-side-effects-to-medications.html

It may sound strange, but it can really help.
You can do it right now, just follow the step by step directions.
