Starting on year 12 of the ITP adventure.
Got my count last week; 16k .
Been in the 12k - 21k range for the past year on generic Cellcept (my own version of 'affordable health care').
Only have to see my hematologist every 6 months and get checked every 2 months.
I miss Promacta, but I can afford generic Cellcept and 12k-21k is fine by me.

Maybe under the new health laws, Promacta will be available to you.

Promacta IS available to me...it always has been. I used it for 3 years on my previous insurance.
All I have to do now is pay the (as of 2014) $4,500 out-of-pocket and jump through the insane hoops for my current insurance.
Or..... GSK will put me in their assistance plan at $375 a month co-pay.
Or..... I can pay a higher premium and co-pay to get an O-care policy.
And thanks to O-care, my insurance premium has gone up, my coverage decreased, my out of pocket increased by $1000, and we get to pay the the ACA's 'Transitional Reinsurance Fee' (tax) every week now.

OR......I can pay $10 a month co-pay for generic Cellcept and go about life.

Oops.....I forgot to mention....on a more positive note:

The afternoon before I went on holiday vacation (12/20/13), my boss surprised me with a promotion.

Life is good; 16k platelet count AND a promotion.

Congratulations on that promotion, Jack! That started the year off on a positive note!

You are not alone in not wanting to spend all of your money on drugs. I have always felt that the money could be put to better use, such as my children's educations, some needed home improvement, etc. I have always tried to take the cheapest route also, even if it was not the easiest.

Glad to hear you're doing so well Jack. Hoping that promotion turns out to be all you want. :)

Yes MJ, jolly old Odin rode Sleipnir to my house and left some goodies under our tree!
Somehow....a bearded dude on an 8-legged horse, waving a spear called Gungnir, bearing gifts and shouting, "On Sleipnir!" doesn't have the same ring to it as Clement Moore's ubiquitous "jolly old elf" and "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blixen!".

The promotion was essentially a title change (senior engineer) and a raise. Same basic job though.
Thank you all for the congrats.

16k and counting..........

Jack,

Thanks for the update!! And, congratulations on the promotion! It's always nice to get a raise with the promotion :) I, too, am glad to hear stories like yours. You are an inspiration to us all--just to know that we can do well with platelets at 16.

This is why I like to stay on this board. I don't want to panic again when my platelets go back down. Knowledge is always so valuable.
