My Mother was recently diagonsed with ITP. She has Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia and has been through several rounds of chemo treatment. The doctors do not know if her ITP was induced by chemotherapy or it was dormant and raised its ugly head. She has been treated with with steriods, retuxin, NPlate, and had her spleen removed. Nothing is helping. She has now been taking Promacta for past three days. She still is not doing well at all. How soon should we see a response from the Promacta?

JAB I don't know about Promacta - I know 2 on it who are doing all right but I don't know when their count started to increase.

Can you go back to previous blood work done and see what your Mother's platelet count was before chemo?

Maybe someone who has been/is on Promacta will see this and respond.

My best to you Mother!

This past January, I started with a 50mg/day dosage of Promacta. It took about three weeks to get the count up from 4k to 10k. On week number two, my doctor increased the dosage to the 75mg maximum. At seven weeks, the count finally climbed out of the low-teens, all the way up to 32k. It's week eight now and I'm really quite happy with 32k!
