I cooked my first one last night and my family really like it. I altered the recipe to my taste.

3 pounds or so of stew meat cut into bite size chunks
1 can of beef broth (don't add extra salt to recipe because the broth is salty)
2 can of sliced mushrooms (may use fresh)
1 yellow onion sliced in rings
2 cans of cream of mushroom soup (this was not in the recipe, it was my addition) The recipe called for 1 can of cream of onion soup.
1-1 1/2 cup of sour cream
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard (I don't know what this is for but it was in the recipe)

Put the flour, some pepper, dried mustard in a bag a mix. Coat the beef with the flour mixture. Layer the beef in a crock pot with the mushrooms. Put the onion rings on top. In a sauce pan, combine and heat the broth and mushroom soup until mixed. Pour over the meat and onions. Cook in the crock pot for 6-8 hours on low setting. Add sour cream about an hour before serving.
Serve over hot wide egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes. (I'm trying potatoes next time)

Beef Stroganoff
1 lb. quality steak, sliced in strips cream of chicken soup (or mushroom!)
1-2 tablespoons margarine 8 oz. sour cream
1 tsp. chopped garlic egg noodles
1-2 tsp. minced onion
lots of ground pepper
1-2 tablespoons Worchestershire sauce

Brown steak in margarine, garlic, onion and pepper. Start boiling water for noodles. Add Worchestershire sauce and cream of chicken soup to meat, reduce heat to simmer and stir a few times. When you add the noodles to the boiling water, add the sour cream to the meat pan and stir gently. Don’t boil the sour cream! And don’t forget your veggies! Serves 4-5. Leftovers are yummy!

A great chef I am not, but this is popular--and easy! Heading: Out-of-the-can-into-the-pan cooking! Even works at camp! Ann, Caitlin's Mom
