Blood blisters in mouth

Blood blisters in mouth was created by grasshopper
My daughters haematologist always said that blood blisters in her mouth is always a bad sign and that we should always get it checked out, but we were never told why and she's never had them before.

My daughter has just cleaned her teeth and there was loads of blood. I looked in her mouth and on her gum are two big blood blisters. She said that it has been bleeding all day and that a friend told her it was bleeding at lunch time as she could see the blood in her mouth, therefore I figure there must have been quite a lot of blood to be noticed by someone else.

Does this sound worrying or serious? What is the worry about blood blisters in her mouth?

My son had blood blisters many times, usually small and on cheeks and tongue, but we were always suppose to use our rescue treatment (pred didn't help counts, but did stop bleeding) when he got the blisters.

My son's Doctor explained the mouth is like a window to the inside, if there is bleeding in the mouth chances of internal bleeding are more likely.

I don't usually get blood blisters in my mouth unless my count is low.

If you are concerned get a CBC done.

Thank you for relying. I've looked again and now that there is less blood, it is easier to see that the blood blisters are where a new tooth is coming throuh. I'm guessing that's not such a problem?

We have a appointment tomorrow anyway so I'll see what they say.

That would be a total different story a tooth breaking through would normally cause a little bleeding that you wouldn't notice but if the counts are lower than normal even if in the safe range. The new tooth could cause a blood blister!

Right before I was diagnosed, I had blood blisters all over the inside of my mouth. When I finally got a CBC, my count was 6k, and then 2k the next day. So from my experience, blood blisters definitely do indicate a really low count. Does your daughter have any petechiae or bruising?
Diagnosed: August 2013, lowest count 2k.
Treatments: IVIG, Prednisone, transfusions.
Current Count: 233k, 12/23/2013.
Currently: Watching/waiting.

The tooth sounds like the issue. If counts are low a tooth at the surface can very easily cause a blood blister and the tooth brush would have easily tore the skin. I recently had a few blood blisters on the inside of my cheek. This prompted me to get a count done. Count was 5k. I also had one of the worst bruises, along with a few minor ones.
