Hello everyone. Just wanted to share my last ITP "Rollercoaster" ride. I have been holding steady the past few months in the 60-80k range. A little over a week ago I was 80k and on Sun I noticed a nice bruise forming on my forearm, along with a few smaller bruises, blood blisters inside my cheek and feeling completely exhausted. Count came back at 5k. Had a Platelet transfusion later that day and as of Tuesday afternoon, I am at 39k. I kind of forgot what it felt like to be that low. Was not enjoyable. Sure is a pretty color of purple in that bruise!! :)

Hey Dean! Nice to hear from you although not happy about the reason. Are you going to treat?

Hi Dean,

Oh, I hate those blood blisters inside the mouth. Those are the worst! Keep us updated. I'm curious, like Sandi, if you're going to treat or not.

Hi Dean,

When I get the mouth blisters I know my counts are low too. What is your game plan?

Plan for now is to see how the transfusion works. Promacta was mentioned a few years ago if further treatment was needed. Not sure I like the risks of this treatment, but I guess there is a risk with any treatment. As of Wednesday count was 39k. This low really affected me mentally and physically. There were more bruises this time with one of them being the worst yet!! The mouth blisters really made me think the count was quite low. We were out cutting wood most of the day last Saturday not knowing how low the count was. I started noticing a discoloration on my forearm on Sunday and felt really exhausted. While at work Sunday night I had this little voice that said "you better have a count done". Figured I was low, but 5k made me think OH CRAP!!!! I just took a deep breath and said it will be fine. Mentally I feel much better, but phsically I get tired pretty easily. Have been doing alot more relaxing the past few days. Hoping the transfusion is all I need to level out again. For those of you that are new to this disorder, remember you are not alone and DO NOT let ITP stress you out. Take a deep breath and try to relax. Staying positive is one of the best self treatments there is for this disorder and this fourm is one of the best places for support!!!

ps Sandi, It has been awhile since I have been on, I did not recognize your new photo. ;)

Dean:

I'm glad to know that you are doing okay emotionally. You're right, take a breath and dive in. That's all you can do. It will be okay, you've been there, done that! I don't have much hope that the transfusion will be of much help. Those don't normally work for very long.

Yep, new pic. Don't like it much.

123k today!! I have added Cashews, Almonds and Walnuts to my diet for the past week. Maybe that has helped! Who knows.

I was suprised to see that the count came back that high!! I was hoping for atleast 35-40k after the transfusion. Recheck again next week.

Wow, Dean! That's fantastic! Hopefully this is a temporary blip. Transfusions do not raise counts like that, so you might be rebounding on your own. Let's hope for even higher counts next time!
