I am in the hospital with ct of 6k. I have some very large blood blisters in my mouth and they are making it hard to eat. Is there anything that can help these go down? Do they get reabsorbed as the platelets go up? I have no experience with these.

Dru,

I don't know if you are newly diagnosed or not. I have had ITP since 12/28 and my platelets have not gone above 12. I get lots of mouth blisters and they seem to last about 4 days and then go away. I use Anbasol when they are painful. I understand from others that they get them when their platelets are low. I am taking a natural path working with a Homeopath. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Patti, I've had itp since 2005. But this is my lowest count and the first time I've had these blisters. I will try the anbasol. I had some hot soup for lunch yesterday and that made them shrink down a bit, a big relief.

I almost always get blood blisters in my mouth when my counts drop. If they are really bad (painful, bleeding, not able to eat) my doctor has prescribed Amicar to help. Not sure if that specifically helps as it is always also with an IVIg treatment but might be worth asking! (only problem is that it is pretty expensive even with what I feel is my pretty good insurance)
