I am just curious as to how many on here have had a splenectomy? Successful or not I am just wondering about stats on this board. Soo IF you have had a spenectomy tell me and give details about if it worked, if you had a relapse, and how long before you relapsed, and how long after diagnosed did you have one. I am just wondering I guess I am one of those people LOL':P

I could swear this came up not long ago and there was a whole thread about people telling about their splenectomy. Have you done a search?

I remember that discussion as well...but cannot find it now.
Here are some threads which have lots of splenectomy experiences.
My own experience is to run when someone threatens me with a knife..... ;)

I have had a splenectomy in 1994 and I still have ITP on occasions. Just this last week down to 4. Clinic on monday. They removed my spleen after trying different things as an inpatient and my count would go up to 2 when lucky. The splenectomy raised it to normal levels. I have periodic drops. I have had two severe illnesses due to not being given appropriate life long after care which is now in place. Don't want to scare you with the details. The splenectomy did mean my count got raised back up even if I have periodic drops. any questions please ask and i will try and answer them but don't want to overload you with information you don't actually want to know about. Am English by the way.

Had a splenectomy that raised me from 0 to 300 and held for almost 10years before a crash back to 10.

My counts went up at first, but fell drastically about two months after the splenectomy.

I had a splenectomy in 1990, had great counts for 15 years. In 2005 counts crashed to 2,000. Have been on Rituxan which usually gives me about a year before crashing, then I do it again.

My daughter was diagnosed in january 2011, her counts were all over the board, she had reactions to medications. then she had her spleen removed may 25th 2011 her count raised to 804 then 5 days later down to 608 then yesterday she was down to 123. We wait till next week and if it goes down more it is concidered a failure per her Doctor. ( next week will be 1 month)
