Sinus infection and cold was created by jahel318
Hello everyone,

So 2 weeks ago my platelets were are 60,000. I came down with a sinus infection immediately after the labs were drawn and a bad cold a few days ago. I was taking Doxycycline up until last week and I've been taking Mucinex for 6 days now. When I had my labs drawn today my platelets were at 9,000. Anyone else have a similar experience? Can sinusitis and common cold cause platelets to drop?

Yes, an illness can cause counts to drop. So can antibiotics.

I get chronic sinus infections and have for years. Every time, I'd get an antibiotic. I stopped taking meds for it and started using a personal steam inhaler. It works better than any medication I've ever had and the infection clears up within days. It also does more for bronchitis that any med I've ever tried. I also take high dose Vitamin C.

A bout of sinusitis was classed as the cause of my ITP. As for colds I only have to have a hint of a sniffle and my count plummets

An illness can also cause count to rise, some have had increases when taking an antibiotic. My count went to 401k with the flu years ago.

I've been practically living on Mucinex lately - have a cold & trying to keep it from going into an infection. Having low IgG I have to go on
antibiotic as soon as suspect an infection, since I'm allergic to a lot of antibiotics, penicillin & sulfa doxy has been the antibiotic of choice for
me. I also take 500mg of Ester C 2x a day. Too much C can cause diarrhea so I don't want to go overboard on it, plus it would be expensive urine since what you don't need isn't used or stored in the body.

Hope you are feeling better soon & your counts bounce back!

Mel:
This is a fantastic video about the benefits of Vitamin C. I didn't know half of this information prior to watching this. This doctor is amazing. Much of what we know about Vitamin C is incorrect.

Sandi,
Everytime I catch something it turns into a sinus infection and bronchitis. I caught something back in Oct and I am still trying to completely get rid of it. I will have to try the vicks personal steamer. I am so tired of this crap!! I can't even laugh without triggering a coughing spell!!

Dean - I'm the same way. I get hit with bronchitis once or twice a year and it lasts for two or three months. It's three trips to the doctor, antibiotics, albuterol, steroids, breathing treatments, etc. I have to sleep sitting up because the wheezing is so bad. I bought the steamer last year when I was desperate because nothing was working. The cough went away in three days. So far this year, I have not had bronchitis. I use the steamer as soon as I feel like it's coming on and I have not gotten it. That thing has been a miracle for me.
