Helmet or no helmet? was created by BabyChaece09
My son is 23 months old and was diagnosed with ITP a few days ago. His count is at 13 right now. The hematologists told us that a helmet really isn't necessary for counts higher than 10. My concern is that my son is a very active toddler. He constantly is running into things. He can't walk through a door way without hitting the side of the frame. Before we left the hospital he had already added a new bruise to his head and within an hour hit it again. He is very accident prone. I am torn whether or not I should call and ask to get a soft helmet for him so I do not have to worry about it when he is not in my care or even for everyday walking around. The one thing the doctor had said was to keep him from head injuries but it seems that we can do everyhting but that.

Question is...

Helmet or no helmet? And where do you even find one?

I think if it makes your feel better for now get him one till at least he is old enough to understand to be more careful with himself, he may not need it, but for your own sanity and to take some of the worries away, it might be an idea. I never had one, but I don't think I was an extremely rough and tumble active sort of toddler. The doctor may say he doesn't need it, but he is not the one constantly watching him and being worried he might hit his head. Go with your gut instinct cause most people's is usually always right.
