nplate and rituxan questions was created by freckles
after 18 years of never having treated, with counts between single digits and 20, i am probably ready to try rituxan.
so a couple of questions...
those of you on medicare, is it being covered?
if you look up the side effects, they're pretty horrible, what is the real worled experience with it?
if in my own mind if i am sure i have a fungal infection (i have severe ibs and symptoms seem to correspond to some sort of infection), should i be doing rituxan?

thanks

Freckles, one thing to remember is that we are all different. When I did my Rituxan, I had no issues before or after and nothing during the infusion. My counts started going up with the first dose. I figure I am a lucky one, considering what I read about others' experiences with it.
As for the infection, you should talk to your doctor(s) about doing the Rituxan

freckles, perhaps this thread will help you.
"Considerations with starting Rituximab?"

Do you know if you respond to steroids? If you don't, Rituxan is likely a waste of time. Since you are living with ITP with low counts and without bleeding symptoms, my guess is that you do not respond to steroids. But, my guess is only based on probability. So don't really know.
