Hi Everyone,
I am new to this group and hope to get some great guidance. I have known I have ITP for about 2 years. My counts usually bounce from 35-60. No meds yet. However a few weeks ago they went down to 25. My hemo wants to put me on dexomethasone. I really do not want to be on medication at all! Very nervous about the side effects!!
Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a good hematologist in San Diego. I’m not sure mine is really knowledgeable. He is nice but not real understanding. He doesn’t think fatigue is a part of itp among other things!!
Just wondering if there is someone in the area that may have a suggestion.
Thanks in advance.

That's great that you have managed to avoid treatment thus far. Sounds like exactly what you should do for a count range like you have. Have you only had one count of 25? There really isn't a ton of difference between 35 and 25. I wouldn't make any treatment decisions based on one single count number unless you happen also to be having active bleeding or significant symptoms.

Steroids are no fun at all in terms of side effects, so you are smart to want to avoid them. If you aren't having any major symptoms, I'd want to wait a few weeks and do another count to see where you are. I have had so many random count dips over the years that sometimes happen for no apparent reason at all. I wouldn't want to jump into a treatment because of a single count number.

Good luck!
