Hi i Have been almost 3 years with ITP and I would like to know if I get a tattoo done does that effect me in any way with my condition...

  • Diagnosed October 2016 Steroids, IVIG, Rituxin, Promacta, Spleen removed, Rituxin again. Currently weaning off Promacta and Prednisone.

I would guess if your count is low you will bleed a lot during the process and after. Not sure that it is a good idea to get 100's of sticks without platelets to plug the holes.

There was a time when I would have said no, but after learning about possible metals in the ink, I wouldn't be surprised if it affected people in some way.

I didn't have any trouble with getting a tattoo, but everyone can be different. A nurse suggested a medic alert tattoo. I believe my platelets were about 20k at the time. I tried to download a picture but it didn't work
