Hello everyone,

My name is Lynn Farquharson and I was actually a member when this was run by Joan Young. My sons name is Steven he was Dx ITP in Nov 1998.. his ITP was not following the "Normal" Path, he would bleed and bruise at high numbers.. 328K and have no signs whatsoever as low as 8k. Steven was treated on average of every 3-4 weeks. his last treatment was in 2004 and his hemo discharged his file form sick kids here in Toronto on Nov 2008..
Steven was also accepted by the Make-A-Wish program. This was in 2004 and he has been excellent since then, a few drops here and there, but not low enough for a treatment.

Steven has not been to a Dr or had a cbc since 2008 and he is doing fantastic.. He is now 21years old and ITP is a distant memory..

Lynn,

I remember you and Steven and it's so nice to hear that he's doing well! I remember when he got his MAW - a game room, right?! Did a treatment trigger Steven's remission or did it just happen?

I don't know if you remember us from the old days but Brady has his 10th anniversary of dealing with ITP this week (woohoo...). He's doing much better now and his last treatment was more than 1-1/2 years ago. We need to check his counts but the last we checked (maybe in September) he was at 50k. We think that puberty has helped him recover a little bit.

THanks for the update - it's nice to hear that ITP can be a distant memory!

Hi Beth,

Yes I do remember you Beth, and Imma gonna keep my fingers crossed that this is it for Brady and ITP will be a distant memory for him too..

Not sure if it was because of Puberty or not, but the year he got make a wish he turned 14 that Dec.
Yeah your right he got the games room/arcade.. it is still the same, minus the hockey table. We had a power outage in the Nov and it never worked after that, so had it refurbished..(about 2 years later, very expensive.

Steven had his last treatment just before they started work on the basement.. for a while his counts bounced around but as he got older he would go out straight from school and not come home till after dinner. If you remember I worked nights so I would only see the kids on the weekends.. He would always say " don't worry mum, I'm fine.." guess it got to the point somewhere along the line I gave up and stopped asking. He is 21yrs now and like any other Canadian male, loves Beer, Hockey and his drums he knows as much about ITP as I do probably more since he is the one who had it. So I trust that if he needs anything he will let me know.

Lynn, Great to hear Steven is doing so well!!! I've been wondering how you and him were recently. Kayla still has her ups and downs. Mostly stays in the middle. We try avoiding treatment whenever possible. Kayla got married last year and is starting a life in a new town about an hour away from me. Which is very hard for me but I'm dealing with it. Please keep us posted from time to time. Awesome hearing(reading) from you!!!
