I really can't give any advice about it, but to say that one thing I've learned with ITP is that there isn't anything, not one thing that is "normal"!

I've had this happen as an adult. I've been covered in horrible bruises and gone in for a count and they were over 200. My hematologist just shrugged, and said that he had no doubt that the platelet function was impaired. He didn't seem overly concerned.

It makes it awfully hard to tell when you're low, though.

I agree with the comment that nothing with ITP is normal. It gets even more confusing. My daughter was 3-1/2 when she was diagnosed (she is 9-1/2 now) and when she was low, she would be covered from head to toe with bruises and petechiae. Now I think her body has learned how to deal with it better so there are times where may she has a bruise or two, but will still be at 5k at platelets. The bruising never bothered us because it let us know exactly where she was at. Now it is tougher.

Good Luck,

JJ

At the last conference there was a discussion about Vitamin C. It doesn't do anything for the platelet count, but does provide support for the small capallaries which can reduce the brusing and help clear it up sooner. Might be worth looking up the references.

Thanks for sharing that. I bruise too much and am willing to try anything.

This is so interesting! My husband and son both have ITP and both stay in the 120-130 range so not too low but still not normal. I give my son extra Vitamin C daily and even though he is VERY active he has very minimal bruising yet my husband who won't take anything does!
