Mum was created by CindyL
So, mum had her second shot yesterday and unfortunately, she didn't react well to it.
We got a call earlier this morning saying she was vomiting and had diarrhea and if it got too bad, did we want her to stay at the home or go to the hospital. We said, hospital. They gave her a Covid test which was negative, thank God.
I called the nurses' station a few minutes ago, and talked to her nurse. She's sleeping, which isn't surprising. She's doing better tonight but is still on oxygen. Her nurse said she could probably reduce her intake as her sats are good. Her blood pressure is low, but after the day she's had, that's not surprising.
I'll call the home tomorrow and see how her night was.
Needless to say, Steven and I had a rather upsetting afternoon. Feeling much better now.

I'm so sorry to hear that Cindy. Hopefully, she is through the worst of it now and will take a turn for the better and get off the oxygen. Keep us posted on how she's doing.

She had a better day today but is still on oxygen. And they put a catheter in today as she's not voiding very much. But that makes sense if she hasn't eaten or drunk much. Her blood pressure is quite low too and that's a bit concerning.
We got to talk to her tonight and she sounded tired, which she said she was. She told me she had an awful day yesterday and she had never been as sick as she was. We didn't talk long as she wanted to go back to sleep. I'll call the home tomorrow morning to see how she is.
Hopefully she'll continue to get better.

Very glad to hear your Mom is doing better today - sorry though she needs the catheter and oxygen for now, hopefully that will change soon. Know this is worrisome for you and Stephen. Sending good thoughts her way!

Yeah, we're having a bit of a hard time right now.
I'm going to have breakfast then call to get an update. May take a run out and peek in her window to see for myself how she is.
I have a wicked headache but I'm attributing that to stress. Hopefully as mum gets better, my headache will go away.

Didn't go peek in her window, but got a good report on her this morning. Just waiting on a call back for news on how her afternoon was. My brother called to tell me she was kind of groggy while he was there and didn't eat any supper. We called at our regular time, but she didn't answer the phone after 4 rings so I hung up. She was either asleep or the phone wasn't beside her. We'll try again tomorrow night.
Now that I know she's improving, I can stop stressing. Just got my call back. She didn't eat any supper but is drinking some Ensure now. Still on oxygen, but her blood pressure is up a bit from what it was. Her heart rate is down quite a bit from what that was too, which is good news.
I'll probably still call tomorrow to see how she is.
I'll behave myself, Mel, I promise!

Mum is definitely getting better! She actually ate all her supper including her dessert tonight. Plus, she asked about the cat, which she hasn't done in 3 days.
No headache since this morning too.

Had a good visit with her. They brought the bird in for her to see, so she paid more attention to that than to us. But that's okay, I was just glad to see her! She still tires out and I'm willing to be she was asleep before we got half way home!
Not on oxygen any more, which is good.

If I told the truth, I like seeing the bird too! It's so pretty. And mum says the feathers are soft. We have to wear gloves, so we can't feel the feathers.
Even when we talked to her last night, she sounded stronger. Off to peek in her window this afternoon for Mother's Day. But we will still call her tonight at our regular time.
After what happened with her, Steven and I have decided to get our second shots separately!

So glad to hear your mum is well on the mend Cindy. I had my second dose (Pfizer) on Wednesday and felt very tired on Thursday & Friday. Yesterday morning I took the dog for a walk first thing got back sat down on the sofa with a cup of tea and slept until about 2pm. After that I felt fine.

mrsb and Mel, I'm glad you both had an easy time of it with the second shots. But I'll be getting the AZ and not sure what Steven will get. Unless they change the rules again, and he can get the AZ too.
I totally understand why things change a lot. This is all so new and nobody really had a chance to fully vet all the vaccines. We'll just hope for the best!
Mummy had a great visit with all of us at the window! My niece and her boyfriend even showed up! That just made her day!

Good news on this front, too!
The nursing home has opened up visitation to primary care givers. Steven and I can now go see mum whenever we want, as well as on our regular Thursday visits!
This started yesterday and of course, we went to see her!
My brother called me Sunday evening in a panic and quite upset. He had tried talking to mum on his visit but wasn't getting anywhere with her. He said she hadn't touched her supper at all and had trouble taking a drink of her milk. She kept nodding off too. So of course, this put me in a panic too. I called her but it was a painful conversation. I don't think she could hear me.
I think she may be getting dementia. Yesterday when we were there, she started talking about where she was going to plant father. I thought she meant my dad and I said he was going to be planted with her. But she was talking about her father. He's been gone since sometime in the 60's!
I'm feeling like if she's still with us to Christmas, we'll be doing well.

Well you are a fount of good news this morning Cindy! Wonderful to hear about the change in visitation policies, and it sounds like she's made a recovery from her post-vaccination reaction. I'm happy to hear it. I'm sorry that she's showing some signs of decline, but it will be nice that you can visit her so much more and give her support.

We're happy about being able to visit more, but I feel bad for my brother and sister. They still have to make appointments. Cathy hasn't seen mum since Christmas other than at the window. She just started a new job in January, and when the home opened up appointments, it's only for Tuesdays and Thursdays. She works for a doctor's office and doesn't get off work til 4/4:30.
She did seem to recover but now I'm wondering if maybe some of what she went through then, is causing some of the problems now.
We called her last night and she picked up the phone but didn't speak. I finally had to call the nurse's station to get them to go hang up the phone.
The dementia is just my thought. I don't know what the nurses think.

Cindy- Just a thought since I take care of seniors. Sometimes if dementia symptoms/confusion comes on quickly it is because the person has an infection such as a urinary tract infection. Its just something I've seen. The elderly person can't tell anyone whats wrong and it appears to be rapid decline mentally and physically but then is found to be a fever or infection. Hope she is okay. Good that you can be more involved!

Posey, that's what one of my cousins mentioned too! I have a call in to the doctor and will mention that to her. It's been hot here the past 2 days and she doesn't like heat so I'm hoping it could be related.
Apparently the doctor is in the home doing med reviews and then rounds. Hopefully, she'll see mums condition and order a test.
Steven and I are going to be with her when she has her supper tonight.
