Kansas City trainer to work out for 30 hours straight in honor of local boy, WDAF TV, Kansas City
"A Kansas City athlete and trainer is preparing for a marathon 30 hour workout to raise awareness and money for PLATELET DISORDER SUPPORT ASSOCIATION. LANCE DARLING plans to 54.2 miles and lift 24,000 reps in honor of 12-year-old James Bamesberger, who has a rare blood disorder. The clock begins at noon on Friday, Sept. 16 at the LOCH LLOYD Health Club. For the first 35 minutes of every hour, Darling will do 800 reps of lifting at the LOCH LLOYD Health Club gym. Then, he will run 1.75 miles outside. 75 miles outside. At the end of each hour, Darling will have a few minutes to eat, hydrate, change clothes and use the restroom. The MARATHON WORKOUT ends at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Darling started training for this event on March 15, 2011, adding reps and mileage every 15 days. Darling said he has wanted to do something for Bamesberger since he met him in 2008. Several months after meeting Jacob, his father Brian, told me that Jacob had chronic ITP, an auto-immune bleeding disorder in which the immune system destroys platelets necessary for normal blood clotting, said Darling. His goal is to raise awareness about this disorder and raise $50,000 for PDSA. People have asked me how I get through a 30-hour workout, but this is nothing compared to the children who live with ITP and other related auto-immune disorders, Darling said. There are several events the public can take part in while Darling is completing his workout to help him reach his goal."
