ITP Treatments

Energy Therapy

The use of ‘laying on of hands’ to heal has a significant and rich history often combined with religious practices. Today, most energy therapies are administered without attachment to any religious sect. Their aim is to balance the body’s energy and enhance the body’s own healing response. Based on century old practices, their staying power and growing popularity speak to their effectiveness. There are also some scientific studies that provide further evidence.

Reiki

One type of energy therapy, Reiki, can be especially beneficial to people with ITP. It is very gentle, effective, and requires only a very light touch by the practitioner. In Reiki, the ITP client’s body controls the absorption of the energy and directs its use in activating a healing response. This is often accompanied by a warm or tingly sensation. The client typically feels more relaxed and has an increased sense of well-being. On a very basic level, it feels healing. Read Joan's story for a personal view of how it can help ITP.

Reiki is now being used in some hospitals as an adjunct therapy to traditional medical care often with Reiki trained physicians, nurses, and support staff. Columbia Presbyterian Medical center, Marin General Hospital, Tuscon Medical Center, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and California Pacific Medical Center all accept Reiki as part of a patient's care.

"Hi; My name is Roger and I have been treating myself with Reiki whenever my Platelets drop to 20 or lower. I can usually boot them up to around 70, but then tend to relax my self-treatment and the count drops again." -- rogera@net.bluemoon.net

Acupuncture

"My daughter lara was diagnosed with itp on 19.03.2001...I am an acupuncturist by trade and we are taught to see things in patterns. ...As a mother I would not have been game to rely on TCM alone and I am very appreciative of the medical support.  Without doubt the steroids gave her body an enormous jolt and, I'm hoping, have had more than a temporary effect ......however I do think the acupuncture has been very useful and I am hoping to keep her system supported from now on in this way." -- Sophie (sbouris@bigpond.com)

Therapeutic Touch

Another popular type of gentle energy therapy is Therapeutic Touch. Many nurses have taken this training and some hospitals have sanctioned its use along with other treatments. There is a growing body of well defined studies that show positive results from its use. Contact the Nurse Healers - Professional Associates for more information.

Qi-gong

Qi-gong is used by millions of people in China everyday and has been for centuries. It is a type of energy therapy that combines movement and breath regulation to help improve blood circulation and immune function. Some Qi-gong exercises can be done individually. Other Qi-gong healing requires a Qi-gong master who can ‘read’ your energy and use his energy that flows through him to impart balance. For ITP, Qi-gong helps to increase or balance the body’s energy, bring more oxygen to the system, reduce stress, and generally improve mental and physical health.

Hands of Light

Barbara Brennan, a former research scientist for NASA, spent years studying and developing an international healing practice. Her courses and books have helped many understand and use the power of healing energy. Her work was recently recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy works with your body's natural rhythms and subtle pulses. By small and gentle adjustments, the practitioner helps your body regain balance and an enhanced life force.
