Phytotherapy in Children with Chronic ITPExcerpts from Journal: Pediatriia, 1991, Pages 70-73, ISSN: 0031-403X, Dr. Petrova, et al Page 70. …Splenectomy is effective only in 70% of people who had the surgery. The children who had splenectomies have a much higher risk of getting infectious diseases with a 3 to 12% rate of fatality. In 30% of the patients the splenectomy did not prevent patients from contracting chronic ITP. Page 71 … It has been noticed that development of ITP in children under 1 year of age is connected to switching them to dry milk mixes. It resulted in: dermatitis, gastritis and other gastric anomalies. Different allergic diseases such as diates(gum disease???), pre-asthma, bronchial asthma, excema, food allergy, drug allergy, heurodermit and others lead to development of ITP. Also children with ITP were diagnosed with gastritis, gastroduodenit, gall bladder disease and chronic frequent infectious diseases. Page 72 … Considering that in most of the ITP cases children also had allergic diseases, we used the earlier developed method to treat allergies. We used herbs, having antiallergenic, antihistamine, hemostatic and immunobiological defense qualities. Left Column, Last paragraph: Recipes: ELEUTEROKOKK (???) extract 1 droplet for each year of age 3 times a day before meals. For Stomach: sweetened tea made of VALERIAN, WORMWOOD, MINT,BELLADONNA (Synonym is NIGHTSHADE, DEADLY - POISON !!! ) in proportion: 4:3:2:1. 1 droplet for each year of age 3 times a day before meals Both herbal remedies were given for 3 months and then in the spring and fall times for a period of 2-3 months for 3 years. Right Column, 3rd paragraph: Depending on the individual diseases, accompanied by ITP:YARROW, PLANTAIN, CHAMOMILE, NETTLES - 50 GRAMS EACH AND CORN HAIR - 30 GRAMS. 150-300 ml per day divided into 3-4 doses taken prior to meals for 3-4 months. Repeat this course 2-3 times a year. No side effects were noticed. This method, we believe helps to reduce allergic reactions, to strengthen body’s immunobiological defense and to reduce activity of the immunopathological process. Page 73, paragraph 6 From the Table: 68%- excellent results, 18.8% - satisfactory, 12.5% - unsatisfactory. Summarizing the last two (31.5%) it should be considered that this portion of the patients needed splenectomies. But watching their progress, other methods of herbal remedies could give positive results. The Last paragraph: In a group of 6 patients all having splenectomies, in only 2 cases it was effective. It was effective in 3 patients over the period of time and 1 patient’s catamnes (???) was 3 months, so to determine the effectiveness was too early. Right column, second paragraph All in all, the herbal treatment developed by us is effective, simple, does not have side effects and reduces the necessity of splenectomy when hormonal therapy is not effective. |
