Legacy Society

The Legacy Society of the Platelet Disorder Support Association
… establishing support for the future

The Platelet Disorder Support Association is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and other platelet disorders. To ensure our mission continues for generations to come, we invite you to join The Legacy Society by including PDSA in your financial or estate plan through a planned legacy gift.

The Legacy Society recognizes the very special people who have included PDSA through a bequest in their will, or created other types of planned/legacy gifts—including a beneficiary designation, such as retirement assets or a life insurance policy—in support of PDSA. Through their foresight and philanthropy, these individuals create a future for PDSA where the resources devoted to supporting the ITP community is increased dramatically.

If you have included a gift to PDSA in your estate plans, please let us know. We would like to thank you for your generosity by including you in The Legacy Society.

Membership Benefits

Your membership in The Legacy Society involves no dues, obligations or solicitations, but it does allow us to thank and recognize you for the plans you have made. Your gift may also inspire generosity in others!

Each Legacy Society member enjoys the following benefits:

  • Listing in PDSA Publications (unless you prefer anonymity)
  • Your name on the Legacy Society plaque at PDSA’s national headquarters
  • The Legacy Society membership pin
  • Invitations to special events
  • Regular updates from PDSA's President & CEO

However, the most important benefit you will receive from joining The Legacy Society is the sense of fulfillment knowing that your special gift will allow PDSA to grow its programs by leaps and bounds.

Thank you for considering a legacy gift that will provide support for future generations of ITP patients.

About Legacy Gifts

A legacy gift (otherwise known as an estate gift or a planned gift) is much more than a financial decision; it's a personal statement about who you are, what you care about and the mark you want to make on the world. Your gift to PDSA will help us advance our mission of education, advocacy, research, support and communication while, at the same time, establishing your own legacy.

Including PDSA in Your Will

To include PDSA in your will, please consider the examples below in consultation with your lawyer. Once the new language has been included, please let us know so we can thank and recognize you as part of The Legacy Society.

To give a fixed amount of money or a designated property:

“I hereby give, devise and bequeath [identify here a specific sum of money or a specific asset] to the Platelet Disorder Support Association, 8751 Brecksville Road, Suite 150, Cleveland, Ohio 44141, to be used for the benefit of the Platelet Disorder Support Association in such a manner as the PDSA Board of Directors thereof may direct.”

To give the residuary or a portion of your estate:

“I hereby give, devise and bequeath all [or a portion – for example, fifty percent (50%)] of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to the Platelet Disorder Support Association, 8751 Brecksville Road, Suite 150, Cleveland, Ohio 44141 to be used for the benefit of the Platelet Disorder Support Association in such a manner as the PDSA Board of Directors thereof may direct."

To Restrict Your Gift

If you wish to support a specific initiative, such as the PDSA Research Fund, your will or trust should clearly state the intended purpose so the restriction is not so limited as to prevent PDSA from applying the money in the most efficient way. If you wish to designate your gift, simply add,

“...specifically for [describe the primary purpose, such as the PDSA Research Fund]. If it is determined by the Board of Directors of the Platelet Disorder Support Association that all or part of the gift is no longer needed, or for any reason cannot be used for the stated purpose, then such portion of the gift may be used for other related purposes, which the PDSA Board of Directors deems to be in the best interests of the Platelet Disorder Support Association, giving consideration to the original purposes described above.”
